I was guest of the Omelas science fiction podcast, prepared and hosted by dear Jülide Kayaş and İsmail Yamanol, together with the SF author Ayşegül Yalvaç. We talked about the relationship between ecology and science fiction.

As Editor-in-Chief, I invite authors to submit papers for Fafnir – Nordic Journal of Science Fiction and Fantasy Research, issue 2/2025. We welcome research from a range of disciplines on all aspects of science fiction, fantasy, and other speculative genres.

Patrick Brock, Regina Kanyu Wang and I are also coordinating a stream on “Global Speculations.” This stream invites contributions focused on phenomena variously known as Co-Futurisms, Indigenous Futurisms, or various regional traditions of speculation (e.g., Afrofuturism, Arabfuturisms, Asia Futurisms, etc.). We especially encourage and seek presentations on less known and under-researched texts and artists. This conference may be of interest to those working on speculative fiction/arts/media. One of the keynote speakers will be Sherryl Vint!

I am giving a presentation at the annual conference of the European International Studies Association that will take place in Lille (France) in late August.

I wrote with Bodhisattva Chattopadhyay a chapter of the catalog of the “Arabo Futurs” exhibition that is taking place at the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris (23/04/2024 - 27/10/2024)

Settling the Desert, Unsettling the Mirage: Urban Ecologies of Arab and Gulf Futurisms in Ahmed Naji’s Using Life.

Together with Burcu Kayışcı Akkoyun, Emrah Atasoy, we co-edited a Critical Forum conceptions of utopianism and representations of speculative fiction in the Mediterranean.

Co-organised with Müge Özoğlu, title “Bodies in Crises, Crises as Bodies in the Middle East and North Africa”.
